Audition for Julius Caesar @ United Methodist Church, Hudson Falls
Audition for Merry Wives of Windsor @ United Methodist Church of Hudson Falls
The Hudson River Shakespeare Company is a Community Theatre based in Hudson Falls, drawing talent and audience from Washington, Warren, and Saratoga Counties.
Our Mission
The mission of The Hudson River Shakespeare Company is to make available to
residents of the area works of classic literature with emphasis on the plays
of William Shakespeare. Residents participate as both actors and auditors.
Our History
In the summer of 1999 we presented our first play, A Midsummer Night's Dream
at the Hudson Falls High School Auditorium under the name Hudson Falls Community
Theatre as a benefit for the SPCA of Upstate New York. Since then we have
produced Twelfth Night, The Taming of the Shrew, Romeo and Juliet, A Winter's
Tale, Cymbeline, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Hamlet, All’s Well That
Ends Well, Much Ado About Nothing, Measure for Measure, Richard III, The Tempest,
and Othello as well as five annual Halloween Readings, two Christmas shows,
and three Broadway musical reviews. In the spring of 2006 we branched out
to present the modern “classic” Greater Tuna, a hilarious two
– man comedy staring Bruce VanGuilder and Andy Daly. Summer 2006 saw
our fifth production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and our second production
of A Taming of the Shrew, making 2006 a year for comedies.
Our Philosophy
We believe the quality of a performance experience for both the audience and
the performers is dependent on the material being performed and the sincerity
with which it is presented. To that end we concentrate on classic literature,
which has proven its beauty and truth by maintaining its human appeal through
the ages. And to better express our sincerity, we maintain a clean, simple,
and minimal production style.
We also believe that audience members should not have to pay a lot for an entertaining theatrical experience, and that performers should not have to pay anything. The simplicity of our production style not only places emphasis on the language and direction of each production, but minimizes production expenses. This makes it possible for us to remain committed to a $10 ticket price, continue a high frequency of production, and offer many performance opportunities throughout the year with no fee or other financial commitment from the performers. And all that makes the work we do accessible to everyone.
Who We Are
Since we charge no membership fee, it is impossible include a membership list.
Each of our main stage productions is cast separately and audition notices
are placed in area newspapers. Poetry readings and musical reviews are cast
by invitation primarily, but not exclusively, from among all the people who
have been involved in any production. People on that long list range from
five to seventy years old and we are always interested in working with new
people.
We believe, as Theseus says in A Midsummer Night's Dream, "…never anything can be amiss, when simpleness and duty tender it."
If you are interested in being involved, come to an audition or event and
